Pablo Gómez de Pablos talks about the divestments of the Spanish Savings Banks

Savings banks have been very reluctant to divest their industrial portfolio, in contrast to what Spanish banks have done.

“Institutions should establish the market value of both their loans as well as their portfolio of investments. When they sell, they will suffer due to the negative impact on their income statement, but, in return, collect liquidity,” said Pablo Gómez de Pablos, Managing Partner of GBS Finance.

“Only by recognizing these impairments and by facilitating divestitures can they solve the problem and rededicate themselves to the business of lending,” stated Gómez de Pablos.
